DICK BUTKUS

Dick Butkus is argued to be the greatest defensive player in the history of football. He was born on the 9th of December in 1942. He is now 71 years old. He was a middle linebacker for the Chicago Bears and is perhaps the most feared tackler in NFL history. He was drafted in 1965 and retired in 1973. He was inducted into the football hall of fame in 1979. Here are some interesting facts about him:

Fun facts:
Played football in Illinois for his whole career. Went to high school at Vocational and went to college at Illinois
Pro Bowler for eight out of his nine NFL years
On the All-Decade teams of the 60's and 70's. He only played three years in the 70's
Retired #51 for the Bears and retired #50 for the Fighting Illini

  2. How many sacks did he have? How tall was he? It's interesting he played his whole career in Illinois,

    1. Sacks were not an official recorded stat at the time unfortunately. To give some history on that, the official "sack" was created by Deacon Jones, perhaps the best defensive end in NFL history, was interviewed about tackling a quarterback. He said that it was like putting the QB in a sack and beating him, hence the term "sack". Dick Butkus was 6 ft 3 in.
